Tooth decay is a common disease in North America, second only to the common cold. It can definitely be affected by sugary drinks (and the foods you eat).
If you eat or drink a lot of sugary or high carbohydrate foods, the sugars can mix with plaque on your teeth to create an acid. It’s that acid that will attack your enamel and cause tooth decay.
Our recommendation is that you limit sugary and starchy foods in your diet, make sure to brush and floss twice a day, and visit your dentist regularly. When you’re out for a patio night, order a side of water to sip in-between drinks and snacks, and make sure to brush and floss your teeth when you get home!
Schedule an appointment at either of our Winnipeg dentist offices (St. Vital or Garden City) for your next check-up.
