Crowns are most often associated with cracked or decayed teeth, but they are sometimes used to cover teeth that have bad discolouration.
If your issue is mild surface stains on the teeth from food and beverage, we usually suggest other whitening methods - like our Zoom! Whitening treatment that only takes about an hour. But some people experience dark discolouration that is difficult, if not impossible, to remove, and crowns are a great option.
Discolouration can occur at an early age from things like a bad fever during tooth development in childhood or consuming the antibiotic tetracycline before age eight.
Crowns are still susceptible to mild staining from drinking tea, coffee, and other acidic foods and beverages. You should still take the same care of your crown as you would your teeth by brushing twice a day and flossing daily.
Unlike most dental offices, we custom make our crowns in-house in one appointment. This significantly reduces wait time and ensures each patient is cared for from beginning to end.
Maybe it's time for your and your family's regular checkup and cleaning, you have a toothache or you need to get your treatment plan going - whatever the reason, we're here to help you get your confident smile. Whether you're a new patient or a returning friend, we can't wait to see you at your next appointment at either of our Winnipeg clinics!
