The first full week of March is Dental Assistants Recognition Week. It’s an important week for us because dental assistants are some of the most crucial people on our team.
The dental assistants at both the Garden City and St. Vital clinic locations are Registered Dental Assistants. Registered Dental Assistants go through extensive training through specific college programs, and have to pass different levels of exams and meet specific practical experience to become licensed to work in Manitoba.
No doubt you recognize them when you come in for your dental appointment; they’re usually one of the first people you see as you sit down in the dental chair.
We could go on forever about all the ways our dental assistants help make your appointment better, so here are our top five:
1. Assisting during procedures — from getting the treatment room ready and finding the right tools for your appointment (filling a cavity and removing a tooth require very different tools), to helping to rinse your mouth, a dental assistant is ready to make sure your visit is a comfortable one.
2. Providing treatment — there are a few integral procedures your dental assistant may do during your appointment. One is giving you your fluoride treatment after your dental cleaning—which goes a long way in preventing cavities between hygiene appointments.
3. Taking dental X-rays — dental X-rays are used to monitor your teeth and mouth to make sure that they’re in tiptop shape from top to bottom. Dental assistants are trained in radiology to be able to take high-quality images so your dentist can find any hidden issues.
4. Providing patient care — dental appointments are complicated, with many different potential issues to watch out for. Dental assistants are trained to watch for any changes in patient stress and discomfort, and then work with your dentist to make your appointment comfortable.
5. Educating patients — dental procedures can sound overwhelming or intimidating, but our dental assistants are pros at making sure your questions are answered and any concerns addressed before your appointment starts, or afterwards if there are additional at-home care instructions.
The dental assistants at Dental Image Therapy Centre are top-tier, and irreplaceable. They work hard to make sure your smiles are confident, and are always keeping your care and comfort top of mind. So, at your next appointment, please thank your dental assistant for all the hard work they do.
Maybe it's time for your and your family's regular checkup and cleaning, you have a toothache or you need to get your treatment plan going - whatever the reason, we're here to help you get your confident smile. Whether you're a new patient or a returning friend, we can't wait to see you at your next appointment at either of our Winnipeg clinics!
